Job Description

St. Lawrence County Treasurer’s Office is in search of:

Property Tax Law Enforcement Supervisor (Temp to Full-time)

Salary: $46,575 with excellent benefits as described below

Benefits: Generous vacation and sick time allowance, Public Service Loan Forgiveness eligibility, NYS Retirement, NYS Deferred Compensation, and the option to enroll in the St. Lawrence County’s health insurance or opt out of the insurance and receive a buyout in the amount of $2,000 for single coverage or $4,000 for family.

This position is responsible for coordinating, directing, and supervising all aspects of the delinquent tax enforcement function pursuant to New York State Tax laws and local laws. An incumbent in this position is responsible for carrying out carefully defined procedures related to the collection and calculation of delinquent taxes, tax sale auction, bankruptcy proceedings and tax foreclosure procedures in addition to supervising the activities of associated staff.  Duties are performed under the general supervision of the St. Lawrence County Treasurer and in compliance to well defined laws and regulations. Supervision is exercised over the work of more subordinate staff assigned to perform related tasks in support of the delinquent tax enforcement function.  Performs related work as required.

Additional Employment Information: This is a provisional appointment.  The successful applicant will need to take a civil service examination and score within the top three interested candidates in order to be permanently appointed.

Job Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Either:

  1. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate’s Degree in Real Estate, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Legal Secretarial Science, or Para-Legal Studies and three (3) years of technical experience in the performance of title searches, abstracting, real property appraisal, real property transfers, or real property tax assessments; OR
  2. Graduation from high school, possession of high school equivalency diploma or possession of an Individual Education Plan diploma and five (5) years’ experience as described (A) above.

NOTE: Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education.  If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency.
