Weights and Measures Inspector

Job Description

The work involves responsibility for testing, weighing and measuring equipment in the County to determine its
accuracy in compliance with prescribed standards. The incumbent performs field inspections to prevent fraud and
deception on the part of owners of the equipment as well as to discover faulty mechanisms where no willful
violations are intended. Inspections are made as part of an organized program or as a result of complaints. The
work is performed under the general direction of the Director of Weights and Measure with considerable leeway
permitted for independent judgment. The incumbent does related work as required.

Salary: $47,856 with excellent benefits.

option to enroll in the St. Lawrence County’s health insurance or opt out of the insurance and receive a buyout
in the amount of $2,000 for single coverage or $4,000 for family.

Job Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from high school, possession of a high school equivalency
diploma or possession of an Individual Education Plan diploma.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid New York State Operator’s license appropriate for the
vehicles operated and must be able to lift and carry materials weighing up to fifty (50) pounds.

Additional Employment Information: This is a provisional appointment. The successful applicant will need
to take a civil service examination and score within the top three interested candidates in order to be
permanently appointed.
