Wetland Monitoring Summer Internship

Job Description

St. Lawrence County Soil & Water Conservation District is seeking two enthusiastic, self-motivated interns to complete wetland monitoring.

General Description of Position:

The main focus of the internship will be on monitoring wetland easements throughout St. Lawrence County. Interns will also work with District staff in a variety of activities including but not limited to: soil sampling, invasive species programs, county forest work, as well as assist with outreach events. Interns will have the opportunity to work with a variety of conservation professionals and representatives of local government departments, professional organizations, and private landowners.

Duties Include, but not limited to, assisting with the following:

  • Organizing, scheduling, record keeping, and completion of onsite and offsite evaluations of wetland easements throughout St. Lawrence County
  • Education and public outreach programs.
  • Assisting with Agricultural Environmental Management (AEM) programs.
  • Field work including tree inventorying, tree marking, soil sampling, etc.
  • Other projects as time and interest allows.


$16.00 per hour

Job Requirements

Helpful knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Valid driver’s license required. Completion of a Dendrology course. Ability to interpret maps and spreadsheets. Ability to compile data and prepare reports. Intermediate personal computer skills. Good verbal and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to use GIS. Good organizational and time management skills. Willingness to work outside in all weather conditions and get your hands dirty. Dependable. Enthusiastic. Willingness to learn.
