Job Description

St. Lawrence County Department of Social Services is in search of a Computer Programmer/Analyst. This is a technical position responsible for generating and maintaining the operating systems, programs, systems design and other software required by a computer system and its user agencies. An employee in this class designs logic for systems programs and for modifications to the systems.

This is a provisional appointment. The successful applicant will need to take a civil service examination and score within the top three interested candidates in order to be permanently appointed.

Generous vacation and sick time allowance, Public Service Loan Forgiveness eligibility and the option to enroll in the St. Lawrence County’s health insurance or opt out of the insurance and receive a buyout in the amount of $2,000 for single coverage or $4,000 for family.

Compensation

Starting salary is $49,172 with excellent benefits

Job Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor’s
    Degree in Computer Information Systems, Information Resource Management or Computer Science;
    OR
  • Graduation from an accredited New York State registered college or university with an Associate’s
    Degree in Computer Information Systems, Information Resource Management or Computer Science
    and two (2) years of full-time paid computer programming experience gained within the past five (5)
    years; OR
  • Completion of at least sixty (60) semester credit hours at a regionally accredited or New York State
    registered college or university including or supplemented by fifteen (15) hours in computer science or
    programming courses and two (2) years of full-time paid computer programming experience gained
    within the past five (5) years; OR
  • Graduation from high school, possession of a high school equivalency diploma or possession of an
    Individual Education Plan and four (4) years of full-time paid computer programming experience gained
    within the past five (5) years.
