Health and Safety Coordinator

Job Description

Empire State Mines is currently seeking a professional to fill the role of Health & Safety Coordinator at its mining operation. Located within 2-hour drive of The Thousand Islands, Lake Ontario shoreline, the Adirondack Mountains and world class skiing at Lake Placid. Explore Canada with Montreal and Ottawa only 2-3 hours away.

Responsibilities:
• Focus on workplace safety and compliance of procedures and MSHA regulations;
• Develop, implement, and improve safety policies, procedures, and programs as needed;
• Provide safety training & education;
• Conduct risk assessments;
• Inspect work environments underground and on the surface;
• Investigate accidents;
• Accompany MSHA on quarterly inspections or other site visits;
• Evaluate and recommend control measures to minimize risk;
• Stay informed of MSHA regulations along with other federal, state, and local H&S regulations;
• Schedule annual required physicals and hearing tests;
• Assist with weekly and monthly H&S reporting;
• Maintain accurate and organized records of training, inspections, investigations, and other
required records;
• Work with all departments of the business to promote a positive safety culture;
• Other reasonable duties as needed.

Compensation

Contingent on experience and skills, $60,000-$70,000 annual base pay

Job Requirements

Qualifications:
• Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and stay organized;
• Ability to use computer for written communication, tracking, and submitting reports;
• Industry experience preferred;
• MSHA Trainer Certification preferred;
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
• Skill in written and verbal communication (in English);
• Legally authorized to work in the US.
