Canexsys specializes in designing and manufacturing products for the telecom sector using various technologies: circuit boards, injection molding, sheet metal, mechanical assembly, etc. For engineers, this is a unique and broad opportunity, giving you exposure to many areas and skillsets with a dedicated team of subject matter experts in design, engineering, electronics, and manufacturing.

Position Overview:

A core onsite manufacturing technology is injection molding, and our molding operations are moderately simple. A critical team member (our Senior Molding Technician) is moving on, and we need to manage this departure.

The scope of this position is quite broad, and we intend to find or develop a candidate with extensive injection molding experience. We will tailor the scope of the position to the candidate. Without limiting the scope, you could be an experienced engineer with molding experience; an experienced engineer with extensive process and/or quality procedure skillsets but no molding experience; or a recent engineering graduate in a molding discipline.

The Position:

70% Injection Molding

  • Gather and document existing knowledge base for injection molding, rigging, and support equipment with an aim to train new Senior Technicians in various technologies.
  • Incrementally develop mold design review skills for compliance with internal kickoffs and other complicated specifications.
  • Develop process documentation, mold-specific workflows, other procedures.
  • Drive continuous improvement with effective change management that ensures successful implementation and reduces backsliding.
  • Perform risk assessments and develop a keen awareness of safety and damage concerns.

30% Automation and Process Improvements

  • Incrementally develop custom automation solutions, starting with simple industrial conveying or material handling, typically through the use of aluminum extrusions, pneumatic actuators, etc.
  • Drive quarterly process improvements within all CNI manufacturing facilities (3).
  • Develop peer relationships with makers/integrators in local companies for mutually beneficial skillset development and training as well as subject matter experts in the field.
  • Investigate and assess opportunities, write proposals, identify grant funding opportunities.

Size of Operations:

Moderately simple molding operations consisting of 3 molding machines (169T, 259T) and hundreds of injection molds. 60 mold changes in 2024. Other assembly and secondary operation technologies. The scope of the challenge is maintaining and developing the onsite knowledge base with the departure of this Senior Molding Technician. You will be building many of our processes and procedures under the guidance of Director, Mfg Operations.

Compensation

Since the scope of this position is being tailored to the candidate, compensation varies by a huge margin. An experienced engineer with molding experience and all the Qualifications/Skills is max $82,000/YR; an experienced process or quality procedure engineer without molding experience is max $75,000/YR; a recent graduate with degree in injection molding is max $65,000/YR. Canexsys publishes the maximum wage for a perfect candidate having very senior-level experience and all of the Qualifications/Skills – Compensation reduced accordingly based on strength of candidate.

Job Requirements

Qualifications and Skills:

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering – mechanical, process, or other (mandatory)

Hands-on engineer (mandatory)

Excellent communication skills, both oral and written (mandatory)

Self-awareness and Self-assessment: knowing what you don’t know (mandatory)

Ability to research, learn, and implement technologies based on machine manuals, industry experts (mandatory)

Mechanical aptitude: understanding machine mechanics, experience working with machines (asset)

Experience with varied industrial machines (asset)

Experience with injection molding and/or injection molds (asset)

Experience with rigging (asset)

Experience with engineering process controls, quality procedures (asset)

Experience with quality controls (asset)

Experience with safety controls (asset)

Experience with change management, positive attitude and motivated by repeated incremental improvements (asset)

Experience with industrial automation platform(s), e.g. VENTION (asset)
