Motor Equipment Operator

Job Description

An employee in this class operates a variety of road building and construction equipment, including rollers, tractors, loaders, sweepers, pavement stripers, heavy duty trucks, and four-wheel drive snowplows.

The incumbent is required to perform recurring manual duties related to operation of the equipment and other duties as assigned when not operating equipment. Additionally, an incumbent performs routine maintenance including lubrication and maintenance of equipment fluid levels. The work is performed under general supervision with leeway allowed for exercise of independent judgment in carrying out details of the work. Supervision may be exercised over the work of laborers depending on the project. The incumbent does related work as required.

Job Requirements

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

Good knowledge of the operation of a variety of medium weight public works and
construction equipment;

Good knowledge of county geography;

Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions;

Mechanical aptitude;

Willingness to respond to emergencies and work under adverse weather conditions;

Dependability;

Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A. Graduation from high school, possession of a high school equivalency diploma, or
possession of an Individual Education Plan diploma; OR
B. One (1) year of experience in the operation of highway construction and
maintenance equipment or operation of a motor vehicle as the primary function of
the position

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Must obtain a Class A OR B CDL within Twelve (12) months
of appointment, if required by employing agency.
